Toolroom in Lodz

The ECAD toolroom in Lodz manufactures blanking dies and punches from tool steels. We cut contours by wire EDM on a Mitsubishi FA20 machine, including in hardened steel, and we mill, turn and grind the components in the same plant. We provide quotes based on a drawing or 3D model, starting from a single piece.

  • Assembly and parts list

In the parts list, each component has its own drawing number, material and mass. The die from this set is shown below in an isometric view.

  • Section A-A

The section shows the hatched profiles of the pin, die and punch along with their dimensions.

  • Tolerance classes

Our part drawings specify tolerance classes, for example a Ø16 H7 (16.000–16.018 mm) bore in the die and punch.

Blanking dies and punches made of tool steels: example grades

We manufacture blanking dies and punches from tool steels. We also wire-cut contours in already hardened steel, so post-hardening hardness is not an obstacle; the key requirement is the electrical conductivity of the material. A broader overview is available in the CNC machining materials table.

CNC toolroom: wire EDM, milling, turning and grinding in a single plant

Tool components pass through several machines in the same plant at ul. Elektronowa 6 in Lodz, and we check the dimensions on site.

Wire-cut contours, milled bodies

We wire-cut the contour of the die and punch within X/Y travels of 500 × 350 mm and a Z-axis travel of 300 mm. We mill the body and holes, turn rotational parts and grind datum surfaces.

Toolroom with dimensional inspection

We check part dimensions using a Mitutoyo height gauge on a granite surface plate, and we can compare the entire component against the CAD model using a Scantech NimbleTrack-C Gen2 3D scanner.

These are machine parameters, not the tolerance of the finished part. We confirm tolerances when preparing a quote.

Tool drawings from our design office

Tool documentation from our design office includes hatched sections, dimensions with chamfers and tolerance classes. We prepare the 3D model and manufacturing documentation in Siemens NX and Solid Edge. These are drawings from our own projects, shown without title blocks.

What to send for a quote on a sheet metal blanking die or punch

We provide quotes based on a drawing or 3D model, not from a price list. We accept orders from a single piece to series production. You can also visit our plant with your drawing or part during working hours, without an appointment.

The price depends on:

  • material and steel grade
  • contour complexity and part height (wire EDM: Z-axis travel 300 mm)
  • required fits and tolerances
  • number of tool components and quantity
  • lead time

What do you make in the toolroom?

We manufacture blanking dies and punches from tool steels. We cut the contour by wire EDM on a Mitsubishi FA20 machine, and we mill, turn and grind the components at our plant at ul. Elektronowa 6 in Lodz. You can send your tool design as a drawing or 3D model. If you need a different tool, describe it in your enquiry and we will check if we can make it.

Can you make a sheet metal blanking die to my drawing?

Yes, we manufacture blanking dies to a drawing or 3D model. Send your files in PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP or IGES format. The scope—whether individual tool components or a complete assembly—is agreed when preparing the quote.

Can you cut a contour in hardened steel?

Yes. In wire EDM, the wire does not make mechanical contact with the part, so post-hardening hardness does not limit cutting. The main requirement is that the material is electrically conductive.

Which steels do you use for blanking dies and punches?

Typical grades include cold-work tool steels 1.2379 (NC11LV) and 1.2080 (NC11). Our tool projects also use 1.2083 (X40Cr14) steel and Toolox 44. We confirm the grade, hardness and tolerances when preparing the quote. More grades can be found in the steel grade table.

What is your minimum order quantity?

From a single piece to series production.

How much does it cost to make a blanking die?

We do not have a price list. We quote based on a drawing or 3D model. The price depends on the material and steel grade, contour complexity and part height, required fits, number of components and quantity, as well as lead time.

What files should I send for a quote?

We accept PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, photos (JPG, PNG, TIFF) as well as ZIP and 7Z archives, up to 10 files per submission and up to 100 MB in total. Please also specify the required steel grade for the tool, the quantity and the required delivery date.
