Smoltech spot welders in the ECAD welding shop
Spot welders will join our welding shop at ul. Elektronowa 6 in Lodz. The manufacturer is SMOLTECH Technika Zgrzewalnicza from Mokronos Dolny. We will publish the model, power and sheet thickness range once the machines are installed at the plant.
Spot welding vs arc and laser welding
Spot welding is a type of resistance welding. Two metal sheets overlap and are clamped together by electrodes. A brief current pulse melts the metal at a single point and joins the sheets. The electrodes must access the joint from both sides, and because the joint is not continuous, it is not leak-tight.
| Feature | Spot welding | Welding |
|---|---|---|
| Joint | spot, overlapping sheets (lap joint) | continuous or intermittent |
| Joint access | from both sides of the sheets | usually from one side |
| Consumables | no filler wire and no shielding gas | filler wire or rod and shielding gas (MAG, TIG) |
| Tightness | non-continuous joint | a continuous weld can be leak-tight |
Currently, we weld manually and on two FANUC robots, including stainless steel and aluminium. See welding and stainless steel and aluminium welding.

Sheet metal spot welding will join cutting and bending in a single order
We laser cut and bend sheet metal parts within the same order, and weld them in our welding shop. The spot welders will complete this production chain once commissioned. Our welding equipment is listed in the machine park.
Laser cutting
HSG G3015H V2 fibre laser, 12 kW.
Sheet metal bending
Trumpf TruBend 7050 press brake.
Welding
Manual and on two FANUC robots.

Spot welding
Coming soon: Smoltech spot welders in the welding shop.
Plant in Lodz, ul. Elektronowa 6
The plant is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:00. You can bring your part in at any time during these hours without an appointment. We have been operating since 2008 and employ 25 people. See contact and directions.
How to enquire about spot welding
We do not have a fixed price list. We quote spot welding just like our other services: based on a 3D model or technical documentation.
The price depends on:
- material and sheet metal thickness
- number and layout of weld spots
- batch size (quantity)
- cutting, bending and other operations prior to spot welding
- lead time

Questions about spot welding
Is spot welding already available at ECAD?
Not yet. Smoltech spot welders will join our welding shop soon. We have not announced a launch date yet. We are already accepting enquiries: send drawing or a photo of your part.
Which spot welders will you use for spot welding?
Smoltech spot welders. We will share the model, power rating and sheet metal thickness range once the machines are installed at our plant. The rest of our welding shop equipment is listed in our machine park.
What is resistance welding and how does spot welding differ from arc or laser welding?
In resistance welding, electrical current flows through parts pressed together and heats the metal at the contact point. The spot variant joins overlapped sheets at individual points between two electrodes, without filler wire or shielding gas. Welding can produce a continuous, leak-tight weld and usually only requires access from one side. Not sure which method to choose? Send a drawing and we will check. See welding.
Which parts are suitable for spot welding?
Overlapped sheets where electrodes can access both sides and the joint does not need to be leak-tight. We will verify the material and sheet metal thickness for your specific part once the spot welders are installed at our plant.
How much does spot welding cost?
We do not publish price lists. We quote spot welding based on a 3D model or technical documentation. The price depends on the material and sheet metal thickness, number of spot welds, quantity, pre-welding operations (cutting, bending) and lead time.
Will you spot weld aluminium or stainless steel?
We will confirm the range of materials and thicknesses once the spot welders are installed at our plant. Today, we weld stainless steel and aluminium at a dedicated station: see stainless steel and aluminium welding.
Can you also cut and bend sheet metal in addition to spot welding?
Yes. We cut sheet metal with a 12 kW laser and bend it on a Trumpf TruBend 7050 press brake within the same order. See laser cutting and sheet metal bending.
