Milling aluminium, steel and plastics: materials and grades

We carry out CNC aluminium machining on 3- and 5-axis centres. We also mill steel, stainless steel, brass and plastics. The full list of material groups with numbers and PN or AISI designations is available in the CNC machining materials table.

We mill stainless steel, duplex, Inconel and hardened steel using different tooling and cutting parameters than for structural steel, matched to the specific grade. Hardened parts with complex contours can also be wire-cut; see wire EDM.

Brass, copper and bronzeCuZn39Pb3 (CW614N), Cu-ETP (CW004A), bronzeCopper milling and brass machining differ from steel machining, so please specify the material and grade in your enquiry.
Plastics and rubberPOM, PA6, PTFE, PEEK, PE, PP; rubberMachining PTFE (Teflon) and other plastics requires different parameters than metalworking, so we tailor them to the material.

These are examples rather than an exhaustive list of grades or a guarantee of tolerances. We confirm tooling selection, cutting parameters and workholding for the specific grade and part geometry when quoting.

3- and 5-axis CNC milling on four machining centres

We mill steel, stainless steel and aluminium parts from drawings or 3D models at our plant at ul. Elektronowa 6 in Lodz. See also our full machine park.

Sections, fits and chamfers from the drawing

We work from production drawings and 3D models. These excerpts come from drawings made by our design office. Don’t have a drawing? Our design office can design the part from a sketch or requirements and prepare production documentation.

  1. Part contourWe quote based on a drawing or 3D model. We do not have a fixed price list per piece or per machine hour.
  2. Dimensions and fitsWe select the tooling, cutting parameters and workholding to suit the material grade and part geometry. Drawing dimensions and tolerances are confirmed when quoting.
  3. Cross-sectionsCross-sections show the interior of a part: holes, threads and pockets. Flat and simpler shapes are milled in 3 axes on the DN Solutions DNM 4500 and DNM 500 II.
  4. Cross-section up closeComplex shapes and bevels are milled in 5 axes on the DN Solutions DVF 6500 and Mazak CV5-500, from multiple sides in a single setup, meaning fewer re-clampings of the part.

What to send for a CNC milling quote

We quote based on a 3D model or drawing; we do not have a price list per piece or per machine hour. If you know the part requires 5-axis milling, please mention it. Otherwise, we will select the machine ourselves.

The price depends on:

  • material and grade
  • dimensions and geometry complexity of the part
  • number of operations (3- or 5-axis, turning, additional finishing)
  • quantity
  • lead time
  1. Send a drawing or 3D modelPDF, DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, photos (JPG, PNG, TIFF) or a ZIP or 7Z archive. Up to 10 files, up to 100 MB in total.
  2. Describe your orderMaterial, part dimensions, quantity and lead time, and if you know that 5-axis milling is needed, please mention that too.
  3. We will reply with questions and a priceWe will send a quote or ask for any missing details.

Questions about CNC milling

What is the difference between 3-axis and 5-axis milling?

3-axis milling moves the tool along the X, Y and Z axes and works well for flat and simpler shapes. 5-axis milling adds two rotary axes, allowing the cutter to reach the part from multiple sides in a single setup. This handles complex shapes and angled features without re-clamping the part between operations.

Which machining centres do you use for milling?

On our 5-axis DN Solutions DVF 6500 and Mazak CV5-500, and our 3-axis DN Solutions DNM 4500 and DNM 500 II. All of them operate at our plant at ul. Elektronowa 6 in Lodz. See our full machine park.

What parts do you mill?

Parts from a drawing or 3D model, from flat, simple shapes to complex 3D geometries and angled surfaces, from one-offs to batch production. We machine complex shapes on 5-axis centres from multiple sides in a single setup.

What materials do you mill?

We mill aluminium, structural and stainless steel, tool and hardened steels, duplex, nickel alloys (Inconel), copper, brass and bronze. Plastics machining covers POM, polyamide, PTFE, PEEK, PE and PP; we also mill rubber. Example grades are listed in the materials table. We confirm the specific grade, dimensions and tolerances of a part when quoting.

How much does CNC milling cost?

We do not have a price list. We quote based on a 3D model or drawing. The price depends on the material, part dimensions and complexity, number of operations, quantity and lead time.

What file formats do you accept for quoting?

We accept PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, photos (JPG, PNG, TIFF) as well as ZIP and 7Z archives, up to 10 files per submission, up to 100 MB in total.

After milling, at the same plant

We mill the part on one or more machines, depending on its shape. Where the job requires it, we include turning, surface grinding and dimensional inspection at the same plant.

  • CNC turning

Rotational parts are turned on Mazak lathes with live tooling.

  • Surface grinding

Precise surface flatness after milling is achieved on our Okamoto grinder.

  • Wire EDM

Mitsubishi FA20 wire EDM machine for contours in hardened material.

  • 3D quality inspection

We can verify the dimensions of a milled part using a 3D scanner, a granite surface plate and a Mitutoyo height gauge.

  • CNC machining

Milling, turning, wire EDM and grinding at a single plant.

Have a drawing for milling?

Send your drawing or 3D model and state the material, dimensions and quantity. We will select the right 3- or 5-axis machine ourselves.
