From cutting program to finished detail

  1. SigmaNEST program

We prepare cutting programmes in SigmaNEST. The software nests the parts on the sheet and sets the cutting sequence.

  2. Laser HSG 12 kW cuts detail by detail

HSG G3015H V2 fibre laser with a power of 12 kW cuts details according to the program in SigmaNEST.

  3. 249 parts from a single sheet

This example program cuts 249 parts from 2 mm aluminium sheet measuring 2500 × 1250 mm in approximately 30 minutes. The laser can cut sheets up to 3000 × 1500 mm.

  4. Deburring and bending

After cutting, we deburr and bend the parts in the same job. See sheet metal bending (PL).

Laser cutting of sheet metal and further processing in a single job

For bending and welding, you don’t need to look for a separate company. We deburr and bend the parts from the laser on site, and if required, we weld them into a finished assembly. See also comprehensive production (PL).

How to order laser cutting

We quote for laser cutting services based on a 3D model or documentation; we do not have a per-meter cutting price. More: what affects the price of cutting and bending (PL). Guides: how to prepare a file for laser cutting and bending (PL) and 12 kW fiber laser in ECAD (PL).

The price is affected by:

  • material and its grade
  • sheet thickness
  • cutting length and number of holes
  • quantity
  • deburring, bending, and welding
  • lead time

Questions about laser cutting

What is the maximum sheet thickness?

Our 12 kW laser cuts structural steel, stainless steel and aluminium up to 40 mm, brass up to 16 mm and copper up to 12 mm. These are maximum values; we will confirm the thickness and edge quality for your detail in the quote.

How much does laser cutting sheet metal cost?

We do not have a price per metre. We quote each detail based on the model or documentation; the price depends on the material, thickness, cutting length, quantity and any additional operations. See What factors influence the price of cutting and bending? (PL).

Do you cut single items?

Yes. We cut sheet metal to size from single items to series, based on your drawing or 3D model.

What laser do you use for cutting sheet metal and metal?

On a CNC HSG G3015H V2 fibre laser with a power of 12 kW. This is our laser for cutting sheet metal and metal: it cuts steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass and copper, on sheets up to 3000 × 1500 mm.

How do you prepare the cutting program?

We prepare cutting programs and part layouts on the sheet using SigmaNEST, based on your drawing or 3D model. The program arranges the parts on the sheet and establishes the cutting sequence.

What sheet size do you use?

We cut sheets up to 3000 × 1500 mm.

Can you bend and weld the parts after cutting?

Yes. We deburr and bend as part of the same job, and welding is carried out in our welding workshop. See sheet metal bending (PL) and welding (PL).

Do you also cut with water or plasma?

In addition to the laser, we have a PTV water cutting machine (PL) (metals, plastics and stone) and a STIGAL plasma-gas cutting machine (PL). We select the technology based on the material and thickness when quoting.

Is laser cutting in metal the same as laser burning?

“Laser burning” is a colloquial name for laser cutting. Parts cut from sheet metal—sometimes called “burn-outs”—are produced on our 12 kW fibre laser, from single items to series.
