Surface
grinding
in Lodz

On our Okamoto surface grinder (800 × 400 mm table), we machine metal workpieces after CNC milling or annealing when tight flatness and a smooth surface are required. We quote from a drawing or 3D model, from single pieces to series runs.

We can combine surface grinding in a single order with CNC milling and stress-relief annealing at the same plant at Elektronowa 6.

Surface grinding on an Okamoto grinder

We grind flat surfaces of metal parts on an Okamoto surface grinder with an 800 × 400 mm table. As a finishing process, metal grinding removes a thin layer of material to achieve an accurately flat, parallel surface and a smooth finish. Workpiece dimensions, material and required flatness are confirmed at the quoting stage.

  • After CNC milling

We grind the surface after milling when the part requires tighter flatness or a smoother finish than milling alone can achieve.

  • After stress-relief annealing

Stress-relief annealing can distort a workpiece. Surface grinding restores surface flatness.

  • Before inspection or assembly

After grinding, we can verify workpiece dimensions with a Mitutoyo height gauge on a granite surface plate, and compare the entire part against the CAD model using a 3D scanner.

Grinding in the production chain: milling, stress-relief annealing, inspection

We can combine surface grinding with milling, stress-relief annealing and dimensional inspection at the same plant at Elektronowa 6. Depending on the job, we grind after CNC milling, after stress-relief annealing, or after both operations.

  1. CNC milling

We prepare the surface by milling on DN Solutions and Mazak machining centres.

  2. Stress-relief annealing

Where required, we stress-relieve the workpiece in an annealing furnace prior to grinding.

  3. Surface grinding

We grind the surface on an Okamoto surface grinder.

  4. 3D inspection

We can verify the dimensions of the ground surface using a 3D scanner and a Mitutoyo height gauge.

What to send for a surface grinding quote

We quote surface grinding based on a drawing or 3D model, not from a price list. Let us know whether the workpiece requires prior milling or stress-relief annealing. We will select the sequence of operations. We accept orders from one-offs to series production.

The order price will depend on:

  • material and grade
  • workpiece dimensions and weight (800 × 400 mm table)
  • required flatness and surface finish
  • whether the workpiece requires milling or stress-relief annealing before grinding
  • quantity
  • lead time
  1. Send a drawing or 3D model

PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES, photos (JPG, PNG, TIFF) or a ZIP or 7Z archive. Up to 10 files, up to 100 MB in total.

  2. Describe your order

Material and grade, workpiece dimensions, required flatness (if known), quantity and lead time.

  3. We will reply with questions and a price

We will review your enquiry and send a quote or ask for any missing details.

Questions about surface grinding

What is surface grinding?

Surface grinding is a finishing machining process in which an abrasive wheel removes a thin, uniform layer of material from the surface. We carry it out on an Okamoto surface grinder with an 800 × 400 mm table; exact flatness, parallelism and surface finish are confirmed at the quoting stage.

When is grinding needed — after milling or after stress-relief annealing?

In both cases. After CNC milling, we grind when tighter flatness is needed than milling alone can provide. After stress-relief annealing, grinding restores flatness that the workpiece may have lost during heating.

What is the maximum workpiece size?

The Okamoto grinder table measures 800 × 400 mm. Whether your workpiece fits — including its height and weight — will be confirmed at the quoting stage.

What flatness and surface finish can you achieve?

Flatness tolerances and surface roughness are agreed and confirmed at the quote stage. They depend on the material, part dimensions and drawing requirements.

Do you grind one-off parts?

Yes. We perform surface grinding from single pieces to series runs.

How much does surface grinding cost?

We do not have a price list. We provide quotes based on a drawing or 3D model. The price depends on the material, part dimensions, required flatness, quantity, and whether the part requires prior milling or stress-relief annealing.
