3D quality inspection and 3D measurement in Lodz

We perform 3D quality inspection and 3D measurement of parts. We check overall part geometry using a Scantech NimbleTrack-C Gen2 scanner, and individual dimensions using a Mitutoyo LH-600E height gauge on a granite surface plate. We scan at our plant at ul. Elektronowa 6 in Lodz and on site at the customer’s premises.

We accept orders from a single piece.

Dimensional inspection of parts: 3D scanner or height gauge

We match the method to the tolerances on the drawing. The scanner captures the geometry of the entire part, while the height gauge checks individual dimensions.

Full part geometry: 3D scanner

The Scantech NimbleTrack-C Gen2 scanner captures a point cloud from the entire part, including freeform surfaces, and scans without targets. We compare the scan against the CAD model to identify deviations from the design. If you only have a physical part without a drawing, see: reverse engineering and 3D scanning.

Scan output: deviation map

After scanning, you receive a deviation map comparing the scan with the CAD model. The map shows where the part geometry deviates from the design.

Measurements on a granite surface plate

The granite surface plate serves as the reference plane. On it, the Mitutoyo LH-600E height gauge measures heights, steps and hole positions.

3D measurement at our plant and on site

The scanner is portable and wireless, so we also measure on site at your facility. The tracker range is 3.5 m.

How the inspection works

Depending on the drawing, we check the part with the height gauge, the scanner or both. The first four steps take place at our plant at ul. Elektronowa 6, and we can also perform the scan at your facility. See also our guide: what is reverse engineering.

    Drawing and tolerances

We take your drawing or 3D model with tolerances and confirm which dimensions are critical. The tighter the tolerance, the more precise the measurement required.

  2. Granite surface plate and height gauge

  3. 3D scan

We scan the part using the NimbleTrack-C Gen2 scanner without placing targets on the workpiece.

  4. Comparison with the model

We compare the point cloud against the CAD model. The result is a deviation map showing where the part deviates from the design.

  5. On-site measurement

Because the scanner is portable, we can also measure the part on site at your premises.

The measurement accuracy for a specific part depends on its size and shape; we determine it when preparing the quote. All plant machines are described in our machine park.

Drawing tolerances determine the measurement method

Before choosing an instrument, we read the tolerances from the drawing. In the shaft view below, the Ø60 diameter has a k6 tolerance.

Shaft view with dimensions: diameter 60 k6 over a length of 60 at both ends, diameter 60 in the middle, 2 × 45° chamfer and overall length 632.

Ø60 k6 is a 0.019 mm zone

On the shaft drawing, the Ø60 dimension has a k6 tolerance, i.e. +0.021 and +0.002 mm. The tolerance zone is 0.019 mm wide, so the instrument must measure with significantly higher accuracy. With such a tolerance, we state at the quote stage whether our instruments are sufficient to verify it.

Tolerance table: nominal value 60, tolerance class k6, upper and lower limits +0.021 and +0.002.

Critical dimensions

Not every dimension requires such inspection. Tell us which dimensions are critical, and we will match the measurement method to them.

What to send for an inspection quote

We do not have a price list. We prepare quotes based on a drawing or a 3D model with tolerances. The more items from this list you provide, the fewer questions we will need to ask:

  • drawing with tolerances or reference 3D model
  • which dimensions are critical
  • quantity and part size
  • where the part is located: at our plant or at your site
  • lead time

3D quality inspection: questions and answers

How do you check part dimensions?

For inspection, we use a Scantech NimbleTrack-C Gen2 3D scanner, a granite surface plate and a Mitutoyo LH-600E height gauge. The scanner checks the shape of the entire part, while the height gauge on the granite surface plate measures individual dimensions such as heights and hole positions. We match the method to the drawing tolerances and agree on it at the quote stage.

How does 3D scanner inspection differ from height gauge measurement?

The scanner captures a point cloud from the entire part and shows where the shape deviates from the CAD model. The height gauge measures selected dimensions relative to the plane of the granite surface plate. We can inspect a single part using both methods.

What will I receive after a 3D scanner inspection?

A deviation map: a comparison of the part scan against the CAD model. It shows where the part shape deviates from the design. Individual dimensions, such as heights and hole positions, are checked separately with the height gauge on the granite surface plate.

Do you take measurements at the customer’s site?

Yes. The scanner is portable and wireless, so we can measure the part on site at your premises. The tracker range is 3.5 m. We agree on the date and terms at the quote stage.

How accurate is the measurement?

The accuracy of the Scantech NimbleTrack-C Gen2 scanner is up to 0.020 mm, the complete system up to 0.025 mm, and volumetric accuracy is 0.060 mm at 3.5 m. These are instrument specifications, not the tolerance of the manufactured part. The measurement accuracy for a specific part depends on its size and shape; we determine it when preparing the quote.

How much does 3D quality inspection cost?

We do not have a price list. The price depends on the number of inspected dimensions and parts, part size, measurement location (at our plant or at your site), inspection scope and lead time. Send a drawing or 3D model and we will prepare a quote.

What data and files should I send?

A drawing with tolerances or a reference 3D model (PDF, DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES), photos of the part and information on which dimensions are critical. We also accept ZIP and 7Z archives. You can upload up to 10 files in the form, up to 100 MB in total.
